The New Comfortable Student Residence Opens Its Doors!

The opening of a modern Student Residence has become a landmark event not only for Kozybayev University, but also for the entire North Kazakhstan Region. With the commissioning of this facility, the university is now able to fully meet the accommodation needs of students at the only higher education institution in the region. The residence is a unique architectural complex consisting of two 11-storey residential blocks connected by a central structure. Covering an area of 27,000 square metres, it is currently the largest student dormitory to open in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The residence offers 1,200 places and features comfortable furnished rooms, cafeterias, dining areas, gyms, co-working spaces, and a medical center — all designed to ensure a convenient and supportive living environment for students.

“As instructed by the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, we are working in the North Kazakhstan Region to eliminate the shortage of student housing. In September, we opened a new comfortable dormitory for university students and international faculty on Teatralnaya Street, providing 156 places. Today, we are opening this large, section-type residence. It offers all the necessary conditions for living, rest, recreation, and academic preparation. With this, we have fulfilled the President’s mandate and completely resolved the student accommodation shortage at Kozybayev University,” said Gauez Nurmukhametov, Akim of the North Kazakhstan Region.

Construction of the residence began in 2022 and was carried out by Osnovanie LLP as part of the North Kazakhstan Region’s Social and Economic Development Plan.

“This project was implemented by local executive authorities. Kozybayev University currently has around 6,000 students, and we have ambitious plans to increase this number to 9,000. The new residence creates opportunities for students from across the country to come to Petropavlovsk and study in comfort,” said Yerbol Isakayev, Chairman of the Board and Rector of Kozybayev University.

The new dormitory is located just 500 meters from the main university campus, providing an added convenience for students.

“North Kazakhstan University has built a strong tradition, which is now being further strengthened. Today, out-of-town students gain access to a modern complex equipped with everything necessary for personal and academic development,” noted Olga Perepechina, Senator and Deputy Chair of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, who attended the grand opening.

During a meeting between university leadership and students, many shared their impressions of the new dormitory. Aydana Omarova, a first-year student enrolled in the dual degree programme with the University of Arizona, came to Petropavlovsk from Astana. She shared: “I had the chance to apply to other universities in Kazakhstan, but I chose this collaboration between Kozybayev University and the University of Arizona. I believe this partnership will become a solid foundation for the future of education in Kazakhstan. I’m truly grateful for the construction of this residence and the creation of such a comfortable student environment!” In addition to the new Student Residence, Kozybayev University currently operates four other dormitories, providing a total of 1,365 beds.
