Experts Discuss the Role of Universities in Achieving the SDGs

A round table titled “The Contribution of Universities to the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals” was held in Astana, bringing together representatives of government bodies, international organizations, and higher education institutions from across the country. Among the participants was Anna Kornilova, Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and a member of the Sustainable Development Coordination Group at Kozybayev University.

The event focused on current issues related to integrating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into the educational and research activities of universities, developing ESG competencies, and expanding the role of higher education institutions in ensuring sustainable development.

The program also included interactive group work, during which participants discussed key areas for the transformation of higher education: embedding sustainable development principles into university governance, improving research, building future-oriented competencies, strengthening the role of students, creating an inclusive environment, as well as expanding partnerships and developing human capital.

As a result of the discussions, practical recommendations were developed to enhance the contribution of universities to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

The participation of university representatives in such events promotes the exchange of experience, strengthens interuniversity and international cooperation, and supports the implementation of modern approaches to sustainable development in the educational and research activities of Kozybayev University.
