Kozybayev University Discusses Patriotism and the Role of Young People in Kazakhstan’s Future
M. Kozybayev North Kazakhstan University hosted a research and practice conference titled “Patriotism and Youth: A Vision for the Future.” The participants, including scholars, faculty members, representatives of public organisations and students, discussed patriotic education, the preservation of historical memory, national values, and the civic responsibility of the younger generation.
One of the central topics was the role of young people in strengthening social harmony and shaping a shared vision for the country’s future. Saule Malikova, Director of the North Kazakhstan State Archive and Candidate of Philosophical Sciences, delivered a presentation titled “Қазақстан Халық Кеңесі және жастар: қоғамдық келісім мен ел болашағына ортақ жауапкершілік” (“The People’s Council of Kazakhstan and Youth: Shared Responsibility for Social Harmony and the Nation’s Future”). She addressed young people’s participation in public life and their responsibility for Kazakhstan’s development.
The discussion of the country’s future continued with a focus on its history. Kemel Ospanov, Head of the “Қоғамдық келісім” municipal public institution, presented a book of memoirs and essays about Zhalel Kizatov. Gulbakhsha Musabayeva, Candidate of Legal Sciences, member of the Scientific and Expert Group and representative of the Department of History of Kazakhstan and Law, also highlighted his significance and place in Kazakhstan’s history.
The presentations emphasised the importance of preserving historical heritage and passing experience on to future generations.
The question of which values shape the worldview of today’s young people was raised by Lyudmila Grivennaya, Associate Professor at the University. Her presentation, “Contemporary Youth Values within the System of National Values in Independent Kazakhstan,” explored how national values are understood in a changing society.
Akmaral Sarkenkyzy, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Kazakh Language and Literature, Candidate of Philological Sciences and Associate Professor, together with second-year students of the Philology degree programme Nurlan Asyl, Nazerke Ayapbergen and Akylgul Kalieva, presented “Primeera: The Code of ‘Tolyk Adam’.” The presentation focused on the concept of Tolyk Adam (“The Complete Person”), highlighting the importance of morality, spiritual development and personal responsibility in shaping young people.
Another dimension of patriotism is the desire to benefit the country through knowledge and professional work. This topic was explored by Darya Ostrovnaya, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Technology and Deputy Chair of the University’s Council of Young Scientists. In her presentation, “From Scientific Idea to National Development: Youth Patriotism through Science,” she emphasised the role of young researchers’ initiatives and their contribution to the advancement of national science.
The programme concluded with a presentation of the “Dictionary of Terms in the Field of Interethnic Relations and Social Harmony in the Republic of Kazakhstan.” The publication was presented by Saule Suleimenova, Chair of the Regional Scientific and Expert Group and Candidate of Philosophical Sciences. Developing a common terminology in this field helps promote a scientific approach to the study of interethnic relations and strengthen mutual understanding in society.
The conference brought together historical, social, moral and scientific perspectives on patriotism. The discussions demonstrated that love for one’s country is expressed not only through respect for its history and culture, but also through personal responsibility, the pursuit of knowledge, participation in public life and a willingness to work for Kazakhstan’s future.
