Devotion to Science and the Education of Future Generations: Professor Zhanbay Kadyrov Celebrates His 60th Birthday

As part of the national roundtable titled “Contemporary Theory and Methodology in the Study of Literary Texts and Literary-Historical Discourse,” a tribute was held in honour of Zhanbay Kadyrov, an outstanding scholar, literary critic, Candidate of Philological Sciences and professor at our University, on the occasion of his 60th birthday.

Zhanbay Turarovich is a distinguished educator, accomplished researcher and experienced academic administrator who has devoted his life to education and science. At M. Kozybayev North Kazakhstan University, he served as Dean of the Institute of Language and Literature and subsequently headed the Department of Kazakh Language and Literature for nearly a quarter of a century. He currently serves as a professor, teaching and sharing his knowledge and experience with students.

The scholar’s 35-year teaching career has been marked by unwavering dedication to educating younger generations and making a significant contribution to the development of national science. His former students now work in various parts of the country. As a result of his research and academic work, Zhanbay Turarovich has published approximately 50 textbooks and teaching manuals, as well as around 500 research and methodological articles.

The scholar’s professional achievements and public service have received high recognition. He has been awarded the titles of “Best University Lecturer” and “Honorary Education Worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan.” His distinctions also include a letter of appreciation from the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the “For Contribution to the Development of the Native Language” badge, and a commemorative badge marking the 125th anniversary of Kanysh Satpayev. These awards reflect his substantial contribution to the national education system, literary scholarship and public life.

Guests at the event also spoke about Zhanbay Kadyrov’s outstanding professional and personal qualities. They included colleagues, associates, former students, representatives of the regional Department of Education, and prominent Kazakhstani scholars: Academician Serik Negimov, Professors Temirgali Yesembekov, Sabit Zhambek and Zhanar Talaspaeva, as well as journalists, public figures, educators and students. In their presentations, the speakers highlighted the jubilarian’s scholarly works, research interests and contribution to the study of Kazakh literature.

The participants also discussed current issues in literary studies and examined contemporary theoretical and methodological approaches to the analysis of literary texts.

The event featured the presentation of two books by Zhanbay Kadyrov: Körkem diskurs arnalary (“Approaches to Literary Discourse”), co-authored with A. Tolysbayeva and T. Yesembekov, and Ädebiet teoriyasynyñ arnalary (“Approaches to Literary Theory”), co-authored with T. Yesembekov.

The roundtable provided an opportunity for scholarly exchange, discussion of current issues in literary studies, and wider promotion of the scholar’s academic legacy.
